Hammerfile: Jimmy "Doodaa" Rhymes

Hello Fellow Nimrods...

I'm Jimmy "doodaa" Rhymes, and I'm a videoholic.

I've been hunting and fishing since about the age of 5 or 6, and haven't lost the love for it yet. You could say that family traditions developed into obsessions for me. Whether it was the annual camping trips with my dad and his buddies on the opening weekend of squirrel season, or the annual trek to break the seal on the hunting seasons with a barrel smoking dove hunt, I was raised to be an outdoorsman.

I have killed several deer in my life, and used to, you couldn't pull me out of a deer stand. But something "fowled" my buck fever. I started turkey hunting. My first turkey trip ever ended with an 18 pound, double-bearded gobbler. I never wanted to crawl back into a deer stand again. The sound of that first gobble sent chills up and down my spine. To this day, that same feeling comes over me on every turkey hunt. But, it's not just gobblers anymore. Turkeys, ducks, doves... in my dreams, the skies are filled with clouds of feathers.

During my young years, my parents bought one of them brand-spanking new VHS camcorders from Sears. On the rare occasions they would let me "play with it," I figured out how to make the bells and whistles chime in unison with one another. Soon, anything my parents wanted recorded became my "project." That helped me develop another desire: to work in television. A few years (and one too many parties) after high school I hit the college books hard and eventually landed a job at a local television station in Shreveport. I worked my way up to become a news producer, and now put together the top rated 5 o'clock newscast in our market area.

But, as much as I love the excitement of live television, news just isn't doing it for me anymore. I'm currently working with "Wilderness Wayne" on putting together what we hope will be the first of many Team Hammerdog video projects. Hopefully soon, we will get the breakthrough we are looking for, and I can leave the newsroom behind me. I also have a little production company called "doodaa Productions." It's nothing fancy, and I use my home computer for all of my editing purposes, but it's a fun little gig that brings out my creative side. If any of you have old VHS home movies you want converted to DVD, let me know.

As for my personal side, I have a wonderful wife, Allison, whom I've been married to for coming up on 5 years now. I didn't know my true self until I met her, and she is behind me 100% in all my ventures. As far as kids, we have 2 cats, Opie & Macy; and 2 labs: Sally, a black lab, & Roux, a chocolate lab. Sally is the hunter, and loves bringing in those ducks. Roux, well, she just likes to eat.

I was raised Southern Baptist, and now am a member of the church my wife was raised in: an Assembly of God ministry. So, what's my faith, you might ask? It's simple. I'm a Christian. Put God first, and nothing can stand in your way. My favorite book of the Bible is Proverbs. Which verse? Dunno. They are all words to live by. If I am ever in a situation where I need a different angle to view my life from, I can find the new perspective in Proverbs. There's some great one-liners to live your life by in that book.

Oh, I've rambled on long enough. I gotta get outside...
